Spring Seminar is a wrap!

The 3rd Annual MARS Spring Seminar and Registry Review, sponsored by the Minnesota Society of Radiologic Technologists (MSRT), was a resounding success with 196 students in attendance. This event provided an invaluable opportunity for radiology students to engage in comprehensive review sessions, presented by seasoned professionals in the field. A special thank you goes out to all the educators who dedicated their time to not only attend the seminar but also actively involve their students in the day’s activities. We are particularly grateful to those who led the review sessions, including Kelly Holmgren, Kari Catoe, Katie Smith, and Jen Borstad, whose expertise helped prepare the next generation of radiologic technologists for success. The seminar included a variety of in-depth sessions, from Mayo Radiology Program Educators’ procedural reviews to patient care, radiation physics, and image production reviews. The day concluded with a Mock Certification Exam, offering students a valuable opportunity to test their knowledge before their official exams. MSRT is proud to support this event and looks forward to continuing to assist students in their professional development. Thank you to everyone who participated in making this seminar such a success!

ASRT Student to Leadership Development Program

The ASRT Student to Leadership Development Program is a three-year program that offers students a chance to get to know the ASRT, attend educational sessions, and network with medical imaging and radiation therapy professionals.

Applications for the 2025 program are now open.

Application Requirements Include:

Currently enrolled in an accredited medical imaging or radiation therapy program.
Current ASRT student member.
Proof of current affiliate membership, excluding Military applicants.
Completed application and essay.
Signed letter of recommendation from your program director.

*Note – Check with your affiliate for any additional application requirements.

Selected Participants Receive:

Airfare, housing and a stipend for meals and other travel expenses.
An educational program designed just for students.
An insider's look into the world's largest association for medical imaging and radiation therapy professionals.
Expanded opportunities for professional growth.
Three years of continuing SLDP opportunities.
An in-depth look at advocacy planning and current issues including a case study.

Program Expectations:

I have some quick reminders for some upcoming deadlines for awards for this year's Fall conference. Please read the different awards and their descriptions below and consider nominating or submitting!

The MSRT is proud to present a myriad of Awards each year at the Fall Educational Conference and Annual Meeting. Note: The Fall Conference in October 2022, so you still have time to enter. These awards recognize exceptional imaging technologists and student technologists. Each of the awards have certain requirements and date sensitive deadlines to be met.

A brief description of each award follows and is on the website. You are encouraged to download official award rules and application forms.

Scientific Essays: due July 15^th Student technologists and radiologic technologists are encouraged to submit scientific essays on subject matter pertaining to radiologic technology. Submitted essays are judged by a panel of MSRT members. The top three essays in each category are presented at the MSRT Annual Meeting and Fall Conference.

MSRT Scientific Exhibits: Due July 15^t^h Student technologists and radiologic technologists are encouraged to prepare and present an exhibit on subject matter pertaining to radiologic technology. These exhibits are displayed at the MSRT Annual Meeting and Fall Educational Conference.

MSRT Life Membership Award: Due July 15:

This award is presented to a member who has maintained an interest in the activities and aims of the society for a minimum of five years and has performed outstanding service to the society at the district and/or state level.

MSRT Honorary Membership Award Application: Due July 15: This award is presented to a individual who has maintained an interest in MSRT and supports the MSRT activities and aims of our society over time.

Technologist of the Year: Due July 15^th: Technologist of the Year is awarded to a technologist who has made contributions toward the growth of the society, commitment to the profession, outstanding service to the radiologic field at his/her place or employee, through the community and/or at the state or district level.

Student of the Year: Due July 15th:This meritorious award recognizes a student of radiologic technology who has exhibited outstanding service to the field of radiology by participation at his/her educational institution or in the professional societies at a district, state or national level.

Patricia Daun Memorial Award: Due July 15^th: This award is presented to a student technologist or radiologic technologist who displays the qualities of sincere humanity such as sensitivity, honesty, integrity, desire for continuous growth, a warm smile and a sense of humor. This technologist is truly Someone I’d want to be with!”

Minnesota Society of Radiologic Technologists Scholarship: Due July 15^th: This scholarship will award one (1) $1000.00 scholarship to a student currently enrolled in an accredited Radiologic Science program in the state of Minnesota and one (1) $1000.00 scholarship to a Registered Technologist enrolled in an approved advanced course of instruction in the radiologic sciences.

*Remember most due dates are July 15, 2022. Most of the areas have both students and Technologists able to apply enter except here specific to are a group.

Application Deadline Extended to Nov. 30 for 2022 Student Leadership Development Program

The new deadline is Nov. 30, 2021. The program will now begin Jan. 1, 2022 and conclude Dec. 31, 2024. This remains a three-year program.

To apply to our program students must fill out ASRT’s application by Nov. 30. (SLDP - Application (asrt.org)).

ASRT Student Leadership Development Program- APPLY NOW!!!

The ASRT is now accepting applications for the 2020 Student Leadership Development Program.

Students are encouraged to apply for this unique experience where you will be given the opportunity to get to know the ASRT, attend educational sessions and network with medical imaging and radiation therapy professionals.

Two (2) MSRT students will be selected by a panel of MSRT board appointed judges, and winners will be notified on or before March 1st, 2020. The winners will attend the 2020 ASRT Educational Symposium and Annual Governance and House of Delegates Meeting on June 24-28, in Albuquerque, New Mexico.

Included:

-Airfare, housing, stipend for meals and other travel expenses

-An educational program designed just for students

-A professional mentor assigned for the meeting

An insider's look into the largest association for medical imaging and radiation therapy professionals.

How to apply:

Deadline to apply is until Dec. 15th.

How do you think you would grow professionally from your participation in the ASRT Student Leadership Development Program? How have you been active in MSRT and how do you plan to participate in the MSRT in the future?

A recommendation/permission letter stating that you have your program director's approval to attend the 2020 ASRT Educational Symposium and Annual Governance and House of Delegates Meeting, uploaded to ASRT Volunteer Central.

Additional criteria required by the MSRT:

Applicants must be a current MARS member (student member of the MSRT).
Program director must be a MSRT member.
Program must be accredited by the JRCERT

Applicants are strongly encouraged to present a brief synopsis of their experience at the MSRT annual conference. If unable to attend, a brief written synopsis could be shared.

ASRT members who previously have been chosen to participate in the ASRT Student Leadership Development Program are welcome to attend the 2019 ASRT Educational Symposium and Annual Governance and House of Delegates Meeting as paying participants.

You must be a member of an ASRT affiliate society ($20) AND the American Society of Radiologic Technologists (ASRT) ($35) to be eligible for participation in the program.

ASRT Student Leadership Winners Announced

Congratulations to Kally Marquardt and Cherice Gutzwiler for being selected by the MSRT for the Student Leadership Development Program at the 2014 ASRT Educational Symposium and Annual Governance and House of Delegates meeting in Orlando, Florida June 26-29th.

Kally is a radiography student at Mayo School of Health Sciences and Cherice is a radiography student at Argosy University.

Thank you to all who applied, the selection committee had a difficult time selecting the winners from the essays that were provided.
