Thursday, September 19, 2013 1:00 PM | Deleted user

The Minnesota Radiation Emergency Volunteers (MREV) is a group of statewide volunteer Radiation Professionals focusing on supporting population monitoring in the event of a large-scale radiological incident.

Become an MREV member in order to :

  • Promote radiation protection and exposure prevention
  • Improve radiation health literacy
  • Enhance public health preparedness in our communities

As a Radiation Professional you can help continue to build the MREV group by joining to be a member at www.mnresponds.org

MREV is currently in the process of planning a couple upcoming MREV training sessions. The sessions will explain what members would be responsible for and also include hands on experience with equipment that would be used in the case of a radiological emergency. There are also several upcoming reception center drills/exercises. These are opportunities to simulate and practice a real radiological emergency response with other state and local agencies and community members. It is a great time to become a new MREV member!

If you have any additional questions or if you would like to attend the upcoming MREV training session prior to joining the MREV group please contact Jennifer Maaske-Swain at 651-201-3941 or jennifer.maaske-swain@state.mn.us

Is this for real. Sounds like it could be fishy.

It is a real program. Please read the following response from MDH.

We are currently trying to recruit more members from the radiation professional population. There is a reply posted saying is this for real, sounds fishy. I would like to post a comment stating that it is a real and it is an effort being supported by the Minnesota Department of Health using a grant from the CRCPD. The purpose of the group is in the event of a local radiological emergency we will need skilled, trained radiation professionals to help respond, members will be assigned to be Radiation Protection Specialists. Please take a look at the MDH website for further information or to join the MREV group http://www.health.state.mn.us/divs/eh/radiation/radioactive/mrev.html

      Thank you,

Thank you for your reply. I was not comfortable at first as I did not think MSRT gave out our member email addresses.
        Thanks again
