      As we celebrate the holidays and ring in the New Year, I am thankful for health, happiness, and a great career.  I am also thankful for all of my fellow technologists and the great patient care they do every day.  May you have a wonderful holiday and safe travels!

      Jill M. Lucas, BAH, RT(R)(M) from the Department of Radiology-Medical Imaging Technical Services in Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota submitted the following video entailing history regarding the first CT Scanner used at Mayo Clinic.  Jill Lucas thought it would be nice for our readers to watch after the last post in which MSRT asked, "Who was the first CT Technologist?"

      Jill, thank you for sharing this video with the MSRT!

      MSRT Metro Regional Representative Sue McClanahan was recently asked the question, "Who was the First registered Radiologic Technologist in the state of Minnesota?"  Sue has not found the answer to the original question just yet, but she did find a very fascinating article about the first CT scan ever performed in the U.S. which was performed in Minnesota.  Please see the attached article.  We want to hear your stories! What practices did you do years ago, that the younger generations can't seem to understand? Send in your pics and stories today!

      MSRT Metro Region Information:

      On November 19, 2013, the MSRT Metro Region held their fall meeting.  It was held at the Affinity Federal Credit Union’s Conference Center in Roseville, MN.  We had 15 participants, therefore, our attendance is growing.  The speaker was Dr. Lee Kamman from the  Pulmonary and Critical Care Associates in St. Paul.  His topic was “From Cough to Oncologist And the Importance of Imaging to Get There”.  The discussion was based upon information on lung cancer,  knowing what it is, risk factors and then what to do about it.

      The attendees were radiologic technologists and students.  Some of the comments from the evaluations were:

                "Awesome speaker";

      "Well spoken";

      "Informative";

      "It was useful learning about lung cancer"; and

      "Taking away information I can use in life and possibly in my job."

      Our next meeting will be February 6, 2013 from 6:30-8:30. We hope to get the Affinity Federal Credit Union again. The topic will be Pediatrics. See you there!

      Sue McClanahan, MSRT Metro Regional Representative
